Eight avid cyclists from Premdor recently took on the challenge of a lifetime – cycling just over 100 miles from their Barnsley headquarters to a sister company in Nottinghamshire.
Organised in aid of Barnsley Hospice – Premdor’s 2015 chosen charity – the challengers left their Huddersfield Road base at first light and began the gruelling journey to their half-way point at Door-Stop International in Huthwaite, near Mansfield.
After a short rest and the opportunity to tuck into a feast of flap jacks and cheese sandwiches, the group began their return journey back to Darton, returning to late in the afternoon after a mammoth 11-hour ride.
Team sponsorship and generous donations from company suppliers and a supportive general public meant that the grand total raised exceeded £2,000 – a sum that will directly help hospice patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Jon Walker, Tour De Premdor’s chief organiser, said the event was a resounding success. “Despite being sore and suffering from weary legs, the entire team was determined to finish the challenge and raise as much money as possible for the hospice – a charity that is incredibly close to many of our colleagues’ hearts”.
Jon continued, “Raising over £2,000 was absolutely staggering and definitely spurred us on to complete the entire 100 miles in good time. Despite a few pit stops to fix punctures and grab a snack, the challenge was completed in less than 11 hours and all participants should be incredibly proud of themselves, comfortable in the knowledge that their sponsorship will directly help the hospice’s patients”.
